Jack Crosby Bates Sr.

Jack Crosby Bates, Sr. age 81 of Pinson, AL passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018. After a long struggle with cancer he slipped away from the body of flesh surrounded by his loving family. Jack was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. He was born and raised in Gardendale, AL and was a member of the Gardendale Church of Christ. Jack owned and operated Bates Drywall for more than 50 years and helped construct homes throughout all of Jefferson County. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dana Bates and his parents, George W. Bates and Della M. Bates; his four sisters, Deedie, Lillian, Asilee, and Jean; six brothers, Perry, Len, George, Bob, Tommy, and Ray. Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rhonda Howell Bates; a son, Jack Crosby “Jay” Bates, Jr.; his daughter, Karin Roberson (Mike); grandchildren, Leslie Baudot and Nathanael Bates; a brother, William Donald Bates; a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends. Services will be held on Wednesday, January 24th at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Moncrief Cemetery.
