

James Travis “Jamey” Hightower, age 49 passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on February 11, 1962. Jamey was a professional floral designer and event planner. Jamey won many prestigious awards for outstanding work in his field. His superior design skills were known for excellence in Los Angeles as well as in Birmingham. He fought a long, courageous fight against cancer over the past year. Jamey was preceded in death by his grandparents, T. M. and Willeene Hightower and Jane Shaw all of Gardendale. Survivors include his parents, Charles and Shirley Hightower of Gardendale; brother and sister-in-law, Jody and Diona Hightower of Birmingham; nephews: Trevor and Travis Hightower and niece, Alexa Hightower of Birmingham; grandfather, James Shaw of Gardendale; aunts and uncles: Linda and Billy Flippo, Patsy and Rodger Guthrie of Gardendale; great friend, Dan Sullivan of Nashville. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2011 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with burial in Moncrief Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Special thanks to the staff and nurses at Comfort Care Hospice of Birmingham.
