He was born to the late Eugene Lee Estock and Wilma Faye Estock, August 9, 1958, in Birmingham. John graduated from Ensley High School in 1976, and afterward worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama for five years.
A 1981 car accident rendered him legally blind and facing multiple health problems, but it didn‘t take John’s zeal for life. He found happiness in simple pleasures: listening to classic rock and roll, sunbathing on the back porch, winning at billiards and cheating at solitaire. He never met a stranger, never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune and never heard a Led Zeppelin song he didn’t like.
John is survived by his mother, Faye Estock of Gardendale, along with his siblings: sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Terrell Morgan of Morris; brother, Mike Estock and Karen Keech of Birmingham; sister, Helen Burks of Mobile; and brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Leigh Estock of Trussville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Estock was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Lee Estock, and his niece, Andrea Elaine Morgan.
A visitation is scheduled Wednesday at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel in Gardendale from 5 PM until 8 PM. Chapel funeral services are scheduled for Thursday at 11 AM at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel followed by burial at Sunrise Memory Gardens in Pinson. Pastor Randy Pardue will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to The Alabama Head Injury Foundation or The American Diabetes Association.
