

Louise Thompson Woodward, Age 94 of Gardendale, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. Louise was preceded in death by her parents Samuel T Thompson Sr. and Ola Horton Thompson, brothers Jack R Thompson and Samuel T Thompson, Jr .and her husband Donald Woodward.
She is survived by her sister Catherine Thompson Grimes; Sister in-law Betty Bass Thompson and Doris Marshman Thompson; nieces & nephews: Charles D Grimes (Mary); Steve Grimes (Carol); Shirley Grimes Juban (Lynn); Marsha Thompson Rutherford (Lynn); GiGi Grimes Scott (Walker); Jackie Thompson Tanner; Jack R Thompson Jr. (Gail), Lee S. Thompson (Lynn) and Robert T Thompson in addition to many great nieces & nephews and special friend Jennifer Phillips.
She was born and raised in Gardendale where the family ran the Thompson Dairy. She and her husband Donald moved into the original family home after the death of her mother. Louise was still living there until her recent illness. She took great pride in restoring and adding onto the original structure all the while maintaining the beauty and historical integrity of the home.
Louise led an active life, working for Airco and Exxon Mobile Oil. Her career provided the opportunity to live throughout the United States in cities such as Atlanta, Houston, New Orleans and Denver. She greatly enjoyed traveling and seeing the world and was blessed to have visited many countries including Germany, France, Israel & the United Kingdom (Scotland & England). When she returned to Alabama she joined and became an active member of Gardendale Mt Vernon United Methodist Church and the Beulah Nation Circle. Her love of historical artifacts led her to become involved with the Gardendale Historical Society.
The family would like to thank the staff at Covenant Place and Hope Hospice for all the compassion and special care that she was provided.
The service will be held Sunday March 2nd. 2014 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm and the service celebrating Louise’s life will begin at 3:00 pm. Internment Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family request a donation be made to Gardendale Mt Vernon United Methodist Church.
