He was first and foremost a servant to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For many years he served faithfully at Calvary Baptist Church as minister of music. He served in many other positions as needed, both at Calvary and later at Hughes Memorial Baptist Church. For those that knew him best, there was not a single word that described him, but gentle, caring, giving, and compassionate come to mind. He was not afraid to show his emotions, whether it was for his Auburn Tigers, or in ministry, where he cried easily when something touched him, most commonly during a solo in front of the church. He forever had a smile on his face, especially in his latter years. He gave freely to others that needed it, both family members and friends, without ever expecting anything in return. He loved and supported his wife “Nece” of nearly 60 years with a passion and fervor that could only be explained by the love of Jesus Christ coming from within him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Iva Goodwin, wife Janice Goodwin, infant son David Lee Goodwin, sisters Glenda Bice and Bobbie Whitaker.
