Nancy J. Mayfield

Nancy was married to James Mayfield for over 60 years. They had two daughters, Cathy and Barbara. They lived in Gardendale their entire life. They were members of Pineywood Baptist Church for many years and then became founding members of East Gardendale Baptist Church. She retired from Southern Life and Health Insurance Company then went and worked at Briarwood Presbyterian Church for many years. She also spent 50 years working election polls in her community. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

After James’ passing in July 2014, Nancy married James Burks on July 4, 2017. She lived the rest of her life married to him and spending time with her loving family and friends.

Survivors include James Burks, her son Danny Burks (Pam), daughter Connie Cook (Lou), daughter Sheila McCarty (Lynn), son-in-law Jeffrey Ferguson and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and close family friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elsie Page, her late husband James Mayfield, daughter Cathy Mayhew and son-in-law Syd Mayhew, daughter Barbara Jan Ferguson, and great-granddaughter Shelby Grace Hays.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 23, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Ridout’s Chapel in Gardendale. This will be followed by a graveside service at Oakwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in the Garden of the Good Shepherd.
