

Norma Jean Cary-Henry, age 92, went home to be with her Lord on February 2, 2026. She was born on November 5, 1933, in Birmingham, Alabama, and lived a long, faithful life marked by love, devotion, and unwavering trust in God.
Norma Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Maude and Harry Swanson; her beloved husband, Fred Henry; her brothers, Jimmy Swanson and Jackie Swanson; and her grandson, Justin Lee Cary.
She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Bobbye Cary Wilson; her sons, Lee Cary, Mike Cary, and Pat Cary; her stepson, Lane Henry (Kathryn); her grandsons, Brandon Johnson (Candi), Andrew Johnson (Crystal), and Bragan Cary (Kaytlin); and her granddaughters, Erika Mason (Clark), Tia Barragan (Cesar), Capri Cary, and Emily Cary. Her legacy continues through the many lives she touched as a mother, grandmother, matriarch, and friend.
Norma Jean was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who deeply loved her family. Family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into those she loved. She also found great happiness in ballroom dancing and listening to Big Band music from the 1940s, embracing life with grace and rhythm. Her dogs held a special place in her heart and were a cherished part of her daily life.
Most importantly, Norma Jean was a faithful, lifelong follower of Jesus Christ. She was a devoted member of Hope Community Church, formerly known as Gardendale Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, where she faithfully worshiped and served the Lord for many years. Her life was a testimony of quiet strength, enduring faith, and steadfast love for God.
Norma Jean’s family finds comfort in knowing that she has finished her race, kept the faith, and now rests in the presence of her Savior. Her life leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the ACG Hospice team and her nurse, Katie Culwell, for their compassionate care, kindness, and support during her final days.

Services for Norma Jean will be held at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, located at 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, on Saturday, February 7, 2026, with a time of visitation to begin at 12:00 pm; funeral service at 1:00 pm, followed by her burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale, AL.
