He was born on June 2, 1987 in Birmingham, Alabama. As a boy he enjoyed playing baseball and football. He graduated from Gardendale High School in 2005. He followed in the footsteps of many family members by learning the plumbing trade. He surrendered his life to Jesus Christ in 2012 during his time at Teen Challenge and was forever changed. He went to ministry school at Christ for the Nations in Dallas Texas in 2013 where he met his wife-to-be, Brandy. Scotty and Brandy were married on January 12, 2015. They were making plans toward being missionaries in Greece before life took some unexpected turns. Scotty never wavered on his faith that the Lord is loving, good, all-powerful, and in control.
Scotty’s personality was characterized by his liveliness, vibrance, humor, and his animated manner of communicating. He was the life of any party and brought life and light with him wherever he went. His humor was uniquely beautiful, filled with movie “one-liners”, and shined through even during the midst of struggles.
His family and his friends meant the world to him, and he loved being with his people and his dog Oscar. He treasured his time working with his dad Steve. Scotty loved music… especially hard rock…the really hard stuff. He connected through music, loved attending concerts, and later in life began making music of his own. In recent years he became a devout fan of the Birmingham Stallions, however his ultimate allegiance was to “The Tide”. He was a die-hard Alabama fan through-and-through…which was made apparent by his intentionally tacky Crimson Tide gameday suit and his classic Alabama “A” tattoo. He loved his tattoos and put careful thought into each one as they served as an expression of his heart and mind. His patriotic love for America was known by all. He loved being out in nature, out in God’s creation.
Most of all, Scotty loves his Lord Jesus, and Jesus loves His son Scotty. He would make every opportunity to talk about the Lord and share the hope that is found in the Gospel. When Scott spoke of Jesus, it was so sincere and genuine. In the front cover of his bible, he wrote, “Eternity is a long time to be wrong about Jesus. I want to see people saved, healed, set free, discipled, equipped, empowered, and serving”.
He will be missed beyond measure.
He is preceded in death by his father, Steve Ridener, his grandfather, Thurman Ridener, his grandfather Oscar Pace, and his grandparents, Syble and Herman Whitworth.
