Virgil R. Guthrie, age 72 of Gardendale passed away on January 7, 2014. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Norma Jean Guthrie; and his parents, Virgil and Jewel Guthrie. He is survived by his loving family, two daughters, Leigh Anne Strickland (Jay) and Brandi Stanford (Dustin); sisters, Doris Kilgore and Christine Wade; his grandchildren, Phillip Aaron Nette, Hannah Nicole Nette, Landon Stanford, and Ella Kate Stanford. Mr. Guthrie was a member of the Sharon Heights Baptist Church and retired from Liberty Freight Lines after many years in the truck body repair business. He was an avid gardener, every year he looked forward to growing his vegetables to share with his family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11th, at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel from 5 until 7 PM with chapel services on Sunday beginning at 2 PM. Interment will follow in Liberty Minter Cemetery in Morris.
