Bernice Helen Hernandez

Bernice Helen Hernandez passed away in the early morning August 17, 2024 with her loving husband Johnnie by her side.  Bernice was born August 18, 1937 to Mike and Gustine Kohoutek in Jarrell, Tx.  She left this earth one day before her 87th birthday.

Bernice was survived by her husband, Johnnie, brothers in law Alex Hernandez and wife Virginia, Preston Hernandez and wife Lesa, sister-in-law Angela Hernandez, nephews Ernest Hernandez and wife Becky, Alex Hernandez Jr and wife Melanie, David Hernandez and wife Jessica, Trenton Hernandez and wife Rhea, and Jon Hernandez and wife Mindee.  Close cousins Carolyn Barker and husband Robert and Billy Schwertner and wife Mae and numerous great nephews and nieces, cousins and other family and friends.

Bernice married the love of her life, Johnnie Hernandez, in 1971 and they were by each other’s side daily for 53 years. Bernice attended Jarrell schools and went on to attend Beauty School.  After graduating beauty school, she became a hair dresser in Georgetown for many years.  She later moved on to work for Georgetown ISD in the Jr High lunch room where she enjoyed interacting with the kids.

She was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. For many years, she was also a member of the Jarrell Volunteer Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary enjoying working and playing at many Fire department annual street dances. She loved attending Jarrell ISD football games with her husband to root on all her nephews.  She especially loved taking Trenton and Jon to Mr. Gattis on Fridays for pizza eating contests.  She spent her retirement years doing what she loved, watching the Dallas Cowboys, playing bingo, cooking for church functions and spending time with her husband.

Bernice is preceded in death by her parents Mike and Gustine Kohoutek, Brother-in-law Sotero Hernandez, and special cousin Teddy Havelka.

Pallbearers are Trenton Hernandez, Jon Hernandez, Alex Hernandez Jr, Robert Barker, Billy Schwertner, Corey Schwertner, and Stephen Schwertner.  Honorary pallbearers are Dale Dotson and Ernest Hernandez.

A Rosary will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 beginning at 9:30am with the funeral mass immediately following.
