

The Lord called Charles Everett Ingram to his heavenly rest at home on January 15, 2008, in Austin, Texas. Mr. Ingram was born January 30, 1917, in Galveston, Texas to Charles and Alice Baker Ingram. He is predeceased by his mother, father, and sister, Doris Ingram Letterman. Mr. Ingram graduated from Allen Academy where he completed his ROTC training. In 1937 he attended Southwestern University in Georgetown where he played football, trumpet in the band, was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and had a 1928 Model A coupe. His name still appears on a stepping stone near the gymnasium on the Southwestern campus. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1940. A member of the greatest generation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on March, 21, 1941. In February, 1943, he landed on Guadalcanal with the 3rd Marine Division. Captain Ingram, as Company Commander, saw action in the Soloman Islands, Bouganville, Guam and Iwo Jima. He was promoted to Major as staff officer to handle battalion operations. In August, 1950, Major Ingram was recalled to active duty to serve in Korea. During the past several years he has enjoyed attending the 7th Reserve Officers Class reunions, Sempre Fidelis. Mr. Ingram retired from Shell Oil Company. Charles, Charlie, Chuck or Poppie enjoyed hunting, camping, boating, and rebuilding antique cars. He could build anything. He always had a cat. He had a beautiful tenor voice and loved to sing. Having coffee, telling tall tales and solving the world’s problems with his Georgetown buddies was a special delight. He was a good and faithful servant of the Lord. Mr. Ingram is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Shirley. His daughter, Susan Ingram Jones (Skip) of Austin; Dee Ingram Harris (John) of Oklahoma City; Janet Ingram Hall (Jim) of Jamul, California; Judy Ingram Belkacem (Mourad) of Austin; 6 grandchildren Abigail Parra (Fernando), Ben Harris, Amanda Jones, Andrew Harris (Cyon), Barret Bumford, Becky Bumford; 6 great grandchildren, Aubrey McClendon-Harris, Sofia Parra, Tony Parra, Mario Parra, Boston Harris and Adrian Parra His long-time friend and accomplice, James B. Turner of Georgetown. Also, the cat he loved Brownie. Special acknowledgement and heartfelt thanks are extended to the staff of the Heritage at Gaines Ranch, Hill Country Care Providers and Robinson Creek Hospice for their care and comfort during Poppie’s last days. Quoted from his memoirs, Charles Ingram wrote, “I close with acknowledgement that I have enjoyed a very interesting life, blessed many times by my Lord Jesus, trusted with a great family, a beloved wife, Shirley, and four marvelous and beautiful daughters, each of whom are wonderfully gifted and most of all, we love each other”. A private burial is planned in IOOF Cemetery in Georgetown. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2008 in the Georgetown Church of The Nazarene, 4051 E. Hwy 29 in Georgetown. The Gabriels Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
