There are numerous cousins and the rest of the very large Pogue family. Dan was born in El Paso, TX on February 2, 1952. He was adopted by Milton and Edith Pogue in June of that year. He graduated High School in Rockdale, TX in 1970. He served his country proudly in the Army during the Vietnam War, serving both in Vietnam and Korea. He resided afterwards in Austin, TX where he met his wife Diane Lois Pogue. They married on October 3, 1981. Dan adopted James and Justin in November of 1982 and they all moved to Liberty Hill in 1987. There they became very active in the community in which they now lived. Dan worked in the printing business as a bindery operator. In 1998, Dan and Diane bought The Liberty Hill Independent newspaper. He continued to work his regular job for a few more years, and finally came to work full time side by side with his wife. They worked together until her death this past April. Dan wrote the sports columns and did most of the leg work selling ad space for the paper. Dan was actively involved in the Lions Club, the Liberty Hill Athletic Booster Club, served as a School Board member for several years and the local VFW Post 8200. Dan will be sorely missed by his large family, many friends and colleagues. He was as much of a cheerleader for the community as his wife. Together they stood on the sidelines of every football game. It is difficult to talk about Dan without Diane being right there in the story. They were soul mates in life and now reside together once more for eternity. Dan enjoyed his time with his children and their grandchildren. Dan also loved playing horseshoes and golf. He won many tournaments in Liberty Hill playing horseshoes. Services will be held on Monday November 29, 2010 at 6pm at the Church of Christ in Liberty Hill, TX with supper to follow.
