

Davy L. Porter passed away at his home on July 20, 2011. He was born in Crockett, Texas on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1931. His family moved to Austin in his early years and he attended schools in Austin. He graduated from The University of Texas and was loyal Longhorn. During the Korean War, Dave served in the Army and was stationed at El Paso. He began his career with Magnolia Pipeline in 1956 working in Beaumont, TX. He later moved to Alice, TX where he met his wife, Joyce. Most of his career was spent in Dallas with a short assignment in Saudi Arabia. Dave retired from Mobil in 1993 and he and Joyce moved to Georgetown in 1999. He loved the game of golf and played as long as he was able. When he had to quit, he spent a lot of time sitting at Berry Creek Country Club drinking coffee and talking to people. He loved his church and tried to visit those who were sick and in the hospital. He delivered meals on wheels until his health would not allow it. Among his many travels in the world, the one place he loved visiting the most was Big Bend National Park. He visited Big Bend many times. Dave is survived by his wife, Joyce; a daughter, Laurie Way and her husband, Craig; a son, Tim Porter of Midlothian; four grandchildren, Andrew Way, Haley Way, Julianne Way, and Jason Way; a brother, Charles Porter of Austin; and a sister, Peggy Whetzel of Tyler. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Georgetown, TX at 2:00PM on Saturday, July 23, 2011.
