Gerald A. Smith

Jerry was raised in Whittemore, IA and graduated from the local high school. He joined the Air Force after high school and served 4 years at Webb Airforce Base. He worked at the Whittemore buttermilk plant after the military. He met and married Phyllis O’Donnell of Lone Rock, IA; they were married almost 62 years. His work ethic and desire to provide for his family were very important to him. He and Phyllis moved to Omaha, NE and raised four children Pat, Pam, Mike and Bob. He worked 33 years as an accountant and retired from Weyerhaeuser in 1994. After retirement, he and Phyllis moved to Arizona enjoying the warm weather and plenty of pool time. They were very active in the community and made lifelong friendships. They had the opportunity to explore all 50 States and travel the World. Jerry spent time with his son, Mike on the USS JFK and traveled on the carrier from Boston to Norfolk, VA. It was the opportunity of a lifetime; he cherished this experience.  In 2007, they moved to Sun City in Georgetown, TX.  They brought joy, happiness, love of the simple life and friendship to all they met. Jerry loved his family, friends, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved laughing, playing card games and sharing his love of donuts, ice cream, popcorn, snacks and had the knack of having a great time with all.  

He was proceeded in death by Frank and Helen Smith, several brothers and sisters, son, Bob Smith, and grandsons, Brian and Scott Landeck. He was survived by loving and devoted wife Phyllis Smith, children Pat (Randy) Landeck, Pam (Huston) Dodson, Mike Smith, daughter-in-law Rogene Smith and grandchildren JD (Gabriela) Grothe, Brittney (Shane) Marshall, Kelli (Marvin) Standekar, Kevin Landeck, Hailey Smith and great grandchildren Talen and Holden White, Addison Landeck, John David Grothe and Jayla Landeck.

A graveside service is planned at Central Texas State Veteran's Cemetery in Killeen at a later date.
