Jack Alan Lindsay died on Monday, November 10, 2008 at his home in Sun City Georgetown in the presence of his loving wife, Peggy, and his “Lap Buddy” Sam Hill. Jack was born on August 1, 1927 to Alan Vester Lindsay and Lucille Mitchell Lindsay in Pecos, Texas. He graduated from Pecos High School, afterward joining the U.S. Army. In 1949, Jack married Helen Kingsley; three boys, Richard Alan, David Alan, and Mark Alan were born to Jack and Helen. Jack worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Pecos, eventually becoming Superintendent of Mails. In 1968 Jack was approached by the Postal Inspection Service to join their ranks. During his career he served as Postal Inspector in San Bernadino CA, Las Vegas NV, Reno NV and Seattle WA. In 1974, Jack and Peggy Barber Bue were married in Reno NV. They spent nine years in Seattle, where Jack retired from the Postal Inspection Service in August, 1982. Jack realized his retirement dream of “acreage on water” when he and Peggy purchased eighteen acres on the North San Gabriel River seven miles east of Liberty Hill TX. There they built their dream home and Jack enjoyed the acreage, his tractor, his dogs, and the river for sixteen years. What had been fun in 1982 had become a chore by 1998. Jack and Peggy sold their acreage on the river and purchased a home in Sun City in Georgetown TX. Between vying for the title of “King of the Billiards Room”, monitoring at the Woodshop, participating in Hamburger and Beer Day at Walburg on Thursdays and enjoying the company of all the wonderful friends he made in Sun City, the last ten years were the “Best of Times” for Jack. He was proud of his Scottish ancestry, his U.S. citizenship, and his sixth generation Texan heritage. Jack was preceded in death by two sons, Mark and Richard, and by two brothers, Frank and John Mitchell. Jack’s bigger than life presence will be greatly missed by his wife, Peggy, son David and wife Tonya, step-children Traci and Jeff Bue, three grandchildren, Ashley, Amber, and Jake, and everyone else who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 10 a.m. at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown.
