Jack C. Spillman died on September 20, 2009. Jack showed a fighting spirit and a tenacious will to live for more than a year after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Jack was born on November 28, 1941 in Dallas, Texas. He was the only child of Jack and Julia Spillman. He attended public schools in Dallas through his graduation from South Oak Cliff High School in 1959. He remained a proud “Golden Bear” and maintained friendships with SOC classmates throughout his life. Jack attended Southern Methodist University and was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. Ten days after graduating from SMU Jack married Jacki Simon on June 7, 1963. Jacki was also from Dallas and a SOC graduate. Jack was a Certified Public Accountant and he practiced accountancy until he began SMU Law School. He graduated law school in 1971 and practiced law in Dallas for twenty three years. He was a name partner in Calhoun, Spillman and Stacy. In 1994 Jack and Jacki moved to Cedar Park, purchased the Yello Corner Child Development Center and have operated it successfully since that time. Jack and Jacki raised their three daughters in DeSoto before they moved to Cedar Park. He enjoyed spending time with his family - especially fishing and water skiing on the Colorado River; traveling with Jacki and taking her on fishing trips to Rockport; watching his grandchildren play sports; playing golf at Twin Creeks; watching the deer in his yard; and playing with Zippy, his yellow lab. He was a former member of Oak Cliff Country Club where he played golf with Sam Lucas and his high school golf teammates, Randall Meeks and Jamie Preddy. Jack was a member of the First Baptist Church of Austin, the Cedar Park Rotary Club, the Masonic Lodge, and was a Scottish Rite Mason. In addition to his wife of forty-six years, Jack is survived by daughter Chrislyn Adkins and her husband, Phillip, of Cedar Park; daughter Shandalyn Porter and her husband, Donald, of Cedar Park; daughter Kendalyn Harris and her husband, Mike, of Ft. Worth; and seven grandchildren: Glenn Adkins, Thomas Adkins, Carolyn Adkins, Jacquelyn Adkins, Ashlyn Porter, Dalton Porter, and Grant Harris. Shortly before Jack passed away, his Pastor told him a man’s legacy is his family. That being the case, Jack could not have been prouder of what he leaves behind. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. “V” and Heather of M.D. Anderson as well as Diane and Cindy at Texas Oncology in Cedar Park and Carol K from Hospice of Austin for providing truly personal and loving care to Jack. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, 2009 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown, Texas 78628 from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. A service celebrating Jack’s life will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at IOOF Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Youth Ministry of First Baptist Church of Austin, 901 Trinity, Austin Texas 78701.
