John Hamill Reese was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Ed and Sara Reese on February 15, 1961. After graduating from high school in Houston, he headed to Sam Houston State University where he met his future wife, Jeanne Gattis. They married in Georgetown on August 28, 1982, where they built a home next door to his in-laws. This was his home until he passed on November 29, 2025.
While at IBM, a manager recognized John’s strengths and recommended he join an intensive programing course offered by the company. John graduated from the programing course and started a long and successful career in the technology industry. In addition to IBM, he worked for several consulting companies and the Texas Education Agency where he made life-long friends and connections.
John enjoyed working cattle with his father-in-law and brother-in-law. He also loved classic westerns, good or bad. John enjoyed watching and participating in sports including football, baseball, and Church league softball.
He truly never met a stranger. All that had to occur was for someone to look at him or say something and he would be their best friend. He was always willing to help—no need to ask, he would offer.
John was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Sara Reese, his brother Bill, and his sister, Caroline. In addition, his father-in-law, Carl Gattis, Sr and mother-in-law, Dorothy Gibbs Gattis.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Gattis Reese, and his sons, Allen Hamill Reese and Jacob Sean Reese. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl and Julie Gattis and their sons, Cameron Gattis (Alex) and Travis Gattis (Amber). He loved his sons, nephews, and great nephews (Loken and Isaac) with all his heart. They were each very dear to him.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 2 pm.
