Mario passed unexpectedly on March 12, 2026, at the age of 61. He will be remembered for the laughter he brought, his storytelling, and his love of lighthearted banter with any and everyone. He had a remarkable green thumb and took great pride in his style; but most of all, we will miss his unwavering strength and support.
There will be no formal funeral service at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date, where he will be laid to rest alongside his beloved mother, Yolanda Luna Zavala.
He is survived by his sisters: Ruby, Pearl, and Rita Zavala; his “girls,” Jennifer and Jaclyn Zavala; and his granddaughter, Misaela, who affectionately referred to him as “Super Mario.” He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, and many other loved ones who will forever carry his memory and his spirit in their hearts.
Special thanks to Jose, Adriana, and Cesar Espinoza, as well as the entire work family at Austin Block + Hardscape, who have been deeply supportive during this most difficult time.
In honor of the life he lived, the family has created a Memorygram Memorial. We invite you to share your favorite stories, photos, and memories of him so they may be forever preserved at: https://medallions.memorygram.com/mario-luna-zavala-memorial-3604/
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you remember the good times: enjoy a great meal, have a drink, and, as he would say, “Take it eazzyyy.”
