Nelson Richard Barrett

Nelson Richard Barrett of Liberty Hill, TX, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ann Barrett, and son, Nelson David Barrett. He is survived by daughter Carolann Barrett (Donna) of Cambridge, MA; son, Craig (Rick) Barrett (Christine), of Houston, TX; daughter-in-law, Joyce Barrett, of Wilton, CT; grandson, Luke Barrett of Seattle, WA; and stepdaughters, Ria Van Fossen (Martin) and Margaret Sanna (Mark). Nelson enjoyed life to the fullest, and his life was enriched by the thousands of people he met on his journey.

Nelson was born in Buffalo, NY, on May 26, 1927. He enlisted in the Army to serve in WWII and was stationed in Germany. He graduated from the University of Rochester Law School. He was married to Phyllis Raffauf until 1974, and they had three children. He married Dorothy Ann Zanzano in 1976. They moved to Liberty Hill in 1984. Nelson was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Georgetown, where he served on the missions committee. He was an active member, Paul Harris Fellow,

and proud past president of Rotary Clubs in Georgetown and in Orchard Park, NY. Nelson was a pilot, and he and Dorothy enjoyed many years of traveling around the world. His hobbies included history, photography, flying, scuba diving, and stamp collecting.

A funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Georgetown on Wednesday, July 20, at 10:30 a.m., preceded by a graveside service with military honors.
