Roland Robert Russell

Roland Robert Russell of Georgetown, Texas died on Wednesday, November 30, 2011. He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on August 8, 1944 to Robert and Velvadeen Russell and grew up in St. Joseph. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School. On August 14, 1965 he married Janet Reeve. In 1966 Mr. Russell earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. He went on to join IBM as a computer programmer. He worked in Poughkeepsie, New York and Lexington, Kentucky before moving to Georgetown in 1977 to work in Austin. He retired from IBM in 1992. Mr. Russell loved to play bridge, eat barbecue, and spend time with his grandchildren. He was one of the smartest people around and knew something about everything. He will be missed. Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his wife, parents, parents-in-law Harold and Ruth Reeve, brother Donald Russell, and son-in-law Les Rose. He is survived by daughter Sara Anbari, husband Alan, and grandson Aren of Austin, daughter Samantha Rose and grandson Russell of Plano, sisters Joan and Nola Russell of St. Joseph, Missouri, brother Max Russell and wife Jennifer of St. Joseph, Missouri, sister-in-law Mary Ellen Russell of Kansas City, Missouri, sister-in-law Judy Slaughter and husband Irl of Bethany, Missouri, brother-in-law George Reeve and wife Karen of Joplin, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Meierhoffer Funeral Home in St. Joseph, Missouri with a reception and graveside service to follow. Care provided by The Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown, Texas.
