Daniel James Racette came into this world on August 15th, 1986, at 10lbs 2 ounces. Just hours old, he pushed himself up onto his elbows and raised his head to look out of the hospital bassinet. The nurses, shocked, scrambled to rig his little crib to ensure he didn’t fall out.
And that was our Daniel; from day one, living life on his terms, and shocking us all.
Daniel James Racette, 39 of Glendora, California, passed away in Huntington, Oregon on January 13th, 2026 from a fatal car accident. He was born in San Dimas Hospital on August 15, 1986 to Dennis Racette and Alma Racette. Daniel was the “baby” of the family and the only boy. He was a dream come true to his parents. His four older sisters loved to spoil him and dote on him as a small child. He completed the family as a whole.
As a child, Daniel loved walking down the street to the plant nursery. At 5 years old, he could be seen watering the plants and helping around the nursery. The nursery owners welcomed him with open arms and quickly considered this small boy to be a member of the team. As Daniel grew, his fun loving, playful and adventurous personality came into full effect. You couldn’t be around him without laughing until it hurt or feeling the warmth of his generous spirit.
Daniel will always be remembered as a fearless, loving, man of the earth. He was never lost because he found “home” in any large open space God created. He loved fishing, hunting, and living off the earth. Daniel was a loyal and dedicated friend to so many. Those that knew him, felt the depths of his heart. Daniel was unmarried and did not have children. However, he was a loving “father” to his dogs. His dogs did not eat dog food; they shared whatever Daniel prepared for dinner and slept in his bed nightly.
At the time of his death, Daniel was in a relationship and had plans for the future. He was taken from this world too soon and will always be missed.
He is preceded in death by his father, Dennis Racette. He is survived by his mother Alma Racette, his sisters Rosie Shaffer, Amber Arden, Jennifer Racette, and Melisa Racette. His brother in laws Erich Shaffer and Robert Arden. His nephews, Justin Arias, Eric Calhoon, Eriq Perez, Joseph Shaffer, Benjamin Perez, and Lukas Obert. And his nieces Ashly Calhoon, Rainbow Merrill, and Emma Shaffer. His great nephews, Elijah Calhoon, Aiden Calhoon, and Joshua Calhoon. And his great nieces Sophia Merrill, Ruby Jane Merrill, and Brooklynn Calhoon.
