

Donna Dunkel, 86, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 16, 2024. Born in Barberton, Ohio, on September 28, 1938, grew up in Akron, Ohio. Donna was a beacon of kindness, love, and grace throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Alice Williamson, and her first husband, Harold LeMasters. Donna’s memory lives on through her devoted husband, George Dunkel; her children, Robin Primante and Eric LeMasters; her eight stepchildren, Eddy Dunkel, Kenny Dunkel, Suzi Dunkel-Soto, Danny Dunkel, Betty Dunkel-Barrett, Sheri Dunkel Cowie, Steve Dunkel, and Christi Dunkel; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
After graduating Garfield High School in Akron, Ohio, Donna eloped with her high school sweetheart, Harold LeMasters. They married on June 2, 1956, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. She then moved to California with Harold and Robin in 1960. They shared a beautiful life together until Harold’s passing on February 13, 1992. Years later, Donna found love again. In July 1995, she met George Dunkel during a Pasadena dance class. They instantly knew they were meant for each other. Donna and George were married on July 11, 1998, blending their families into one.
Donna was a dedicated scholar and educator, earning a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences with honors from California State Polytechnic University – Pomona on June 12, 1971. She continued her academic journey with a Master of Science in Education from the University of Southern California on June 3, 1976, and a second Master’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles, on December 19, 1987.
After moving to California, Donna worked at Vons in El Monte. She then worked as a secretary at Honeywell in Covina, while going to school. For 30 years, Donna inspired countless students as a schoolteacher. She taught at the USC Reading Center in Hollywood, Baldwin Park Unified School District, and Azusa Unified School District, leaving an enduring impact on her students and colleagues.
Donna was also a longtime member of the Assistance League of Covina Valley. Outside of her professional life, she cherished moments spent with family and friends, traveling, reading, and shopping—especially for shoes.
Donna was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a woman of deep faith. Her life was a testament to love, perseverance, and generosity.
