Born on March 23, 1940, in Santa Rita, New Mexico, Gloria was the 9th of 10 children to be born to Salvador and Juana Ybarra. In 1966 she was married to Catarino S. Roa. Later that year they welcomed their first child, a daughter and in the following years welcomed two sons to complete their family of five.
Gloria dedicated over three decades of her professional life to the State of California’s Department of Water and Power, where she served as a customer service representative. Her commitment to excellence and her steady presence left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike.
Beyond her career, Gloria’s life was deeply rooted in her Christian faith. She attended her first church service at First Fundamental Bible Church in Monterey Park, California, where she received Christ as her Savior through the loving guidance of Francisco and Alicia Vasquez—a moment that would shape the rest of her life. Gloria faithfully served in many churches throughout the years. She tithed at every service and led by example, teaching those around her about the love of Christ through both word and deed.
Her passion for Scripture was evident to all who knew her. Gloria spent countless hours reading her Bible, memorizing verses, and studying God’s Word with unwavering dedication. Her spiritual discipline inspired many and became a cornerstone of her legacy.
Gloria’s greatest joy came from her family. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Catarino S. Roa; daughter Kathy Roa Woodward and son-in-law Jay Woodward; son Paul Roa and daughter-in-law Araceli Roa; and son Dean Roa. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Dean Jr., Paul Jr., Abigail, Rachel and husband Andrew, Sarah and husband Jonathan, Daniel, and Isaiah. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings.
Gloria will be remembered for her steadfast faith, loving heart, and enduring devotion to her family. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
