Mom and Dad met when Dad was seven and Mom 5 years old. When Mom was seven and she played with her dolls she would pretend she was married to Dad. Her dream came true on March 1, 1942. As of March 1, 2014 they were married 72 years. What a legacy.
Mom's greatest gift to all who knew her was unconditional love.
Over the years she not only gave that love to her biological children but also every child who ever crossed her path. She would allow neighborhood children to come and play all day even before child-care was a popular term. She would feed them and even let them use our bathroom, which didn't happen at any other home in the neighborhood. She taught Sunday School, and was a teacher in the Missionette program, which is similar to Girl Scouts but with a emphasis on moral character. She taught 3 and four year olds until she was in her middle 80's. She had loving children down to an art form.
When Dad and Mom became "empty nesters", Mom designated one of the bedrooms as the "play room". This gave all visiting children the liberty to use any toy available and play any game they wanted. At times when gatherings were taking place, someone would ask, "Where's Grandma Faye?" And invariably we would find her in the play room with the children. There were so many marvelous memories created with Grandma Faye in that little room.
She lived a simple life that was rich in love and shared that love with any who crossed her path. All who met her were richer for the experience.
