Rachel David was born in Flint, Michigan to a modest family in a tight-knit community. The youngest child after her sisters Nancy and Marion, Rachel arrived on February 1, 1932, born to Father Baba and Anna Tamraz who immigrated to the United States from Iran. Rachel was a tiny powerhouse with an engaging personality. Her style and grace caught the eye of Jack Najib David, and in 1956, they married. Her father officiated their marriage in Flint’s Assyrian Church of the East and together they had five children whom
they raised in Michigan and California.
As a young adult, Rachel began making her own dresses and attended college at the Chicago School of Design in pursuit of her goal to become a professional seamstress. After her family’s eventual move to California, Rachel worked as a legal secretary in downtown Los Angeles until her retirement.
Though Rachel had a gentle upbringing, she showed fearless strength in trials and a deep love for her family, which was clearly seen in her perseverance after her husband’s early passing in 1982, and in her continual care for her oldest son. She lived in Diamond Bar, California for over 30 years, where many family celebrations took place, which included neighbors, friends, and always delicious homemade food.
Rachel’s greatest joy was to gather her family around her, trade stories over dinner, and spice up the conversation. She was bright, wise, witty, always considerate of the sick and the hurting, and quick to give away what she owned for the sake of another. She was a woman of strong faith in God who was always ready with helpful words and actions. Rachel was a loving mother, fierce advocate, and protective matriarch.
She is missed by all who knew her.
