March 27, 1938 – August 9, 2020
Robert (Bob) Glaw Fay died peacefully with family by his side August 9th, 2020 at age 82 in Chino Hills, CA. Bob was born in Huntington Park, CA to William Henry and Eva Abrams Fay. Growing up with his older sister, Sheila, and older brother, James (Jim) in La Canada, Tujunga and Maywood, CA, Bob attended St. Rose of Lima, Holy Redeemer Catholic School and St. Francis High School. Along with Jim, they apprenticed as electricians under their father joining the family business, Fay Electric Service in Maywood. He lived a full and family-filled life with Jim and nieces in West Los Angeles.
Between 1961 and 1967, Bob served our country in the US Army both here and in Orleans, France as part of the COMMZ command maintaining generators needed for communications during the Cold War. A nearby drinking establishment in Orleans shared the Fay name and Bob was often treated to complimentary drinks!
During his time of service and throughout his career as facilities engineer and supervisor at Aerospace, Rand Corporation, McDonnel Douglas and Boeing, Bob was a lifelong learner earning certifications and commendations for the projects that he was assigned. This love of learning was passed along to his family and community where his generosity was also felt. He provided scholarships, assistance, and guidance to many. He was beloved by all who crossed his path.
He developed a passion for LEGOs in his retirement and infused his great-nephews and great-nieces with a love for LEGO building projects. He even has several You Tube videos showing his motorized gantry mill creations.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Eva Fay and his beloved brother, Jim. He is survived by his sister, Sister Mary Sheila, SND, his nieces and sons-in-law, Kathleen Jordan of San Diego, Robin and Jim Gary of Austin, TX, Stacy and Doug Goodenough of Chino Hills, Renee Tedesco of Prescott, AZ and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Zoe and Kiya Jordan, Kyle and Trevor Goodenough and Mary Emma and Melina Gary.
A celebration of his life will be held in spring of 2021. In lieu of gifts, consider donating to your favorite charity in Bob’s name and generous spirit.
