Elsie Mae Higgins

She was a registered nurse for 35 years.

Mrs. Higgins was a member of Greeneville Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Mostly, she was a Christian and a loving wife of 43 years, a loving and wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and feeding them. She also loved flowers.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years: Richard P. Higgins; four daughters: Cheryl Shrum and her husband, Tony of Chattanooga; Lisa Gray of Cookeville; Melody Gibbons of Alto, TX; Amy Smith of Mesquite, TX; two sons: Wesley McDonald and his wife, Linda of Jasper, IN; Fred McDonald and his wife, Nancy of Greeneville; ten grandchildren: Sabra Johnson, Stacey McDonald, Ryan McDonald, Katie Shrum, Michael Morris, Juli Powell, Shane Richardson, Branden Richardson, Alisa Simons-Gambill and Michelle Smith; twelve great grandchildren; one sister: Ruth Schermerhorn of Deltona, FL; one brother-in-law: Charles Tollerton of Alabama; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Grace Barrett; a sister, Grayce Tollerton and a brother-in-law, Ed Schermerhorn.

The funeral service will be held at 2 pm Thursday, August 1, 2013, in the .Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel

Pastor Jeremy Arnall will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Service Center of Greeneville Seventh Day Adventist Church.
