

He had a successful career of 43 years in advertising with The Greeneville Sun and was an active member of the Greeneville Kiwanis Club for 40 years.
He will always be remembered as an honorable man and cherished as a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
He was a lifelong resident of Greene County, a faithful Christian, and a member of the Greeneville Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he served as a teacher, deacon and Elder and in recent years was a volunteer at the Adventist Community Service Center.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years: Doris H. Purgason; daughters: Terri Beth P. Melashenko, Sarah P. Coon, and Lori P. Sabol; three grandsons: Matthew J. Melashenko, Tyler A. Melashenko, and W. Zachary Cowan; four granddaughters: Ellen C. Buckley, Mollye C. Harrom, Emily Lyngaas, and Alicia Lyngaas; three great grandchildren: Kayla, Kirk, and Kira Melashenko; and his devoted sisters: Ann Price and Martha Lyn Foley.
He was the son of the late James Thomas Purgason and Pearl Sauceman Purgason and was preceded in death by a brother, Billy F. Purgason.
The family will receive friends from 12pm-2pm Sunday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 2pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ken Coonley and Pastor Jeremy Arnall officiating.
Interment will follow in Bewley’s Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Melashenko, Tyler Melashenko, Tony Sabol, Larry Coon, Tyler Buckley, and Ken Price.
Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Price, Eugene Melashenko, and the volunteers of Adventist Community Service Center: Larry Haney, Malcolm Thurlow, Lloyd Covill, Jessie Felan, Dr. Ron Turk, and Dr. Stanley Giles.
