Mr. Barnett was born in Anderson, South Carolina on March 29, 1947 to George M. Barnett Jr. and Mary Martin Barnett. After graduating from high school in Walhalla, South Carolina, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably for 26 years. He retired in 1991, holding the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (E-9). His time in service included a tour in Vietnam and two tours of duty in Germany.
After retiring from the Air Force, he and his wife traveled extensively in motor homes and served 7 years as International Directors of their RV club. After they retired from that position, they moved to Del Rio and spent several years before moving to Baileyton.
Besides being an avid RVer, George was an avid model train collector and bass fisherman. He was also a member of Baileyton Masonic Lodge, the Morocco Shriners and the Baileyton Ruritan Club. He was a friend to everybody and was always ready to help others until he was no longer physically able.
George is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Thompson Barnett whom he met when both were on assignment in Germany. He is also survived by two sisters, Mishele Barnett of South Carolina and Mary Boggs of North Carolina as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
