

He retired from Greeneville Light and Power after 30 years of service. He was an avid farmer as long as his health permitted.
Mr. Fortner was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years: Charlotte Kilday Fortner; a daughter: Sheila Kay Fortner of Greeneville; two sisters: Patty Fortner and Louise Shelton of Greeneville; brothers-in-law: Tommie Southerland and Keith Kilday and wife, Linda, of Greeneville; sister-in-law: Mildred Kilday of Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late Lem and Bonnie Dixon Fortner and was preceded in death by a sister, Romain Southerland; a brother, Lyle Fortner; and a nephew, Christopher Southerland.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. David Green and Rev. Joey Tillery officiating.
Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles Crum, Noah Southerland, Jerry Fortner, Eric Shelton, Matthew Gentry, and Russell Ooten.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Maynard Austin, Dr. Joe Austin, Dr. Stephen Reed, Robert Ward, and Don Hamilton.
