He was born to parents, Howard A. and Genell Shelton, on July 27, 1956 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Dan graduated from Greeneville High School in 1974. He was a marine, serving actively from 1974 to 1978. He was an alumni of East Tennessee State University, graduating in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering Technology.
He married Patsy Wilson Shelton, the love of his life who survives him, in 2006.
Dan is also survived by his loving daughters: Ashley Shelton and Bethany Echols; son-in-law, Evan Echols; grandchildren: Geran, Gaberiel and Georgia Echols; his mother: Genell; his brother: Cliff Shelton and wife, Lisa; his nieces: Rose Davis, Grace Davis and Cheri Walsh; his aunt: Ruth McAmis; his sister-in-law: JoAnn and her husband, Ray Parton.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Howard A. Shelton.
Dan was a motorcycle enthusiast. He loved Harley-Davidson and Honda motorcycles. He was an avid golfer and loved watching the PGA. Dan attended Kingsley Avenue Free Will Baptist Church while his health permitted. Dan will always be remembered and known for his sweet smile.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 – 2 pm at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Doyle Pruett officiating.
Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Greeneville-Greene County Honor Guard and U.S. Marine Military Team will conduct a military graveside service.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Anil Tumkur, Dr. Kim, Ray Parton, Vickie Stacey and Elders of Kingsley Avenue Free Will Baptist Church.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Ballad Hospice. The family requests that you do a special deed for a cancer patient’s family.
