Joe Ann Hawk

Joe Ann Hawk, age 90, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Joe and Ozell Guinn Johnston. She was a life-long member of the Cedar Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She had served as a deacon, an elder, a Sunday School teacher and had also served as church organist for several years.

She is survived by a grandson, Joe Gregory; a granddaughter, Janetha Gregory; a brother: Bruce (Mary) Johnston of Bluff City; a step daughter Debbie (Gary) Shelton; a stepson, Jim Hawk of Elizabethton; a step granddaughter, Ellen (David) Pittman; three step grandsons: Luke (Jessi) Shelton, Matt Shelton of Indiana, and Steve (Amanda) Johnson of Tullahoma; several step great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Gail Johnston and Glenna Woolsey of Greeneville, and Frances Hawk of Georgia; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Edwin (Sam) Gregory; her son, Dale Edwin Gregory; her second husband, Billy Jay Hawk; daughter-in-law, Sarah Gregory; two sisters: Johnnie (Edward) Roberts and Fannie Kate Johnston; five brothers: Leland and Tommy Johnston of Greeneville, Jay Johnston of Maryland, Charles Johnston, and Lloyd Johnston; two infant sisters; and a step granddaughter, Amanda Lee Shelton.

The family will receive friends 2:00-4:00 and 5:00-7:00 pm Friday, January 10, 2025, at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Tommy Collins will officiate.

Interment will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 am Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Steve Johnston, Brad Johnston, Bryan Johnston, Cliff Fluharty, Jim Hawk, and Gary Shelton. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Charles Montgomery, Gene and Peggy GeFellers, Glenda Seay, L.C. and Mildred Bowers, Betty Pruitt, Shirley Hurd, and the congregation of the Cedar Hill Church.
