

Born in Parrottsville, Tennessee, to Clarence P. and Kathleen Harned Roberts, Katherine was the fourth of five children. Her parents and siblings are deceased.
In 1940 she attended Takoma Hospital Nursing School. It was there she met James Small and they married September 21, 1942. James and Katherine were three weeks away from celebrating their 72nd wedding anniversary when he died on August 30, 2014.
Katherine joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church in December, 1938. She loved her Lord and being active in the church. Over the years, she served as Pathfinder leader, Cradle Roll leader, deaconess, and assisted with community service.
She was a dietitian at Takoma Hospital for several years.
After retirement, she served as a volunteer at Takoma Hospital and logged over 3,000 hours.
She loved to crochet and made caps for the newborn babies at Takoma Hospital.
Katherine enjoyed gardening and had quite the green thumb with house plants.
All of her family looked forward to being home when Katherine could cook her wonderful foods.
Family was important to her. Morning and evening when James and Katherine had their devotional time together, they would always pray for their sons and spouses by name, as well as each grandchild and great grandchild.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: James Samuel and Jacque Small, Clarence Henry and Ginger Small, Jay Frances and Donna Small; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 1:30 – 2:30 pm Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm Saturday in the Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel. Chris Small will officiate.
Interment will follow at Harned’s Chapel Church Cemetery.
