
He retired from The Magnavox Company after 32 years of service and was a farmer.
Mr. Derey was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942-1945 and was a staff sergeant.
Survivors include: his wife of 32 years: Betty Cornwell Derey; one sister: Ellen Derey Boles of Greene County; special nieces and special nephews: Mary Alice Dobbs and her husband Homer of Georgia; and Charles Ellenburg and his wife, Linda, of Johnson City.
He was the son of the late Charles and Myrtle Lauderdale Derey and was preceded in death by a sister: Helen Derey Ellenburg, and an infant brother.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel.
The Rev. James Fain and Chaplain Mary Jane Farmer will officiate.
Interment will follow in Pine Grove Church Cemetery
Pallbearers will be Charles Ellenburg, Carl Belcher, Bruce Love, William Dunbar, Ruble Norton, and James Shoun.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Joseph Scott, the employees of the fourth floor, West Wing of Laughlin Memorial Hospital, the employees of Life Care Center of Greeneville, his special friends and neighbors, and William and Brenda Dunbar.
