She was a housewife.
Mrs. Westmoreland was of the Baptist tradition of faith.
Her family states, "Granny Mary enjoyed the simple things in life like piecing together a puzzle or playing Rook with family and friends."
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: James “Eddie” and Neva Westmoreland of Midway; two daughters and sons-in-law: Elizabeth and Dale Patterson of Mosheim, Pat and Mike Savage of Johnson City; grandchildren and spouses: Jeff and Paula Patterson, Chassity and Chris Seay, all of Mosheim, Jamie and Kim Westmoreland, Kenya Nelson and fiancé David Reece, and James and Jessica Nelson, all of Limestone; great grandchildren: Brodie and Briana Patterson, Nicole and Brandon Seay, all of Mosheim, Spencer Westmoreland, Jameson and Keira Reece, all of Limestone; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Dortha Jones, Margie Davidson, Betty Westmoreland of Mosheim; one brother-in-law: Doyle Westmoreland of Mosheim; several nieces, nephews, cousins; many special friends, including: Ralph and Peggy Barnes of Midway, JoAnn Bowman, Eugene “Doc” Harrison, and Lucille Knight, all of Mosheim.
She was born May 23, 1930 in Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Will and Rachel Peters. She was married to the late James L. Westmoreland for 39 years until his death May 28, 1985. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter: Peggy Lee Westmoreland; a sister: Hazel Boyd; and a very special grandson: Michael Patterson.
The funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at the Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel. Rev. Buster Shelton and Rev. Richard Long will officiate. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Phillipi Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Patterson, Jamie Westmoreland, Chris Seay, James Nelson, Brodie Patterson, Brandon Seay, David Reece, Ralph Barnes, and Spencer Westmoreland.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Nursing staff of Caris Hospice and nursing staff at Signature Health and Rehab Center of Greeneville.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. It is requested that family and friends meet at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home to go in procession to the committal service.
