He was retired and was of the Baptist faith.
He spent his life selflessly caring and providing for his family, whom he loved with all his heart.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 ½ years: Bonnie Jean Franklin; two sons: David Paul Franklin of Jonesborough, TN and Eric Steven Franklin (Trista Dingus) of Gray; a daughter: Valerie (Charles) Grant and a granddaughter: Frances Grant, all of New York; brother-in-law: James Marshall and sisters-in-law: Anna Sue (Roy) Roberts, both of Whitesburg, and Aleda (Ronnie) Self; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late Lola and Laura Franklin.
Paul requested that there be no services. His body will be cremated.
