Selma Louise Jeffers Long, age 97, of Rogersville, went to be with our Lord on November 21, 2022. Selma was born in 1925 to Caldwell and Bessie Jeffers in Oneida, Tennessee. She was a long time member of Persia Baptist Church, and she was proud to proclaim she was the oldest member.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Addison “J.A.” Long; two brothers, Lawrence “Bud” Jeffers and Harold Jeffers; and three sisters, Bonnie Clayton, Jewel Yates, and Eileen Palmer.
She is survived by two sons, Gary (Bonnie) Long and Jerome (Wanda) Long; two grandchildren, Keith Long and Jessica Long; and two step-grandchildren, Kari (Brian) Pate and Kent (Tara) Altom. She also had eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She lived by herself in an apartment, and drove her own car until 2020. She was surrounded in the apartment by many friends over the years. She often said she had outlived all her relatives and most of her friends.
A Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
