Velma J Smith

She was a homemaker and a member of Union Temple Free Will Baptist Church, where she attended faithfully as long as her health permitted.

She was the daughter of the late Barney and Lucy Lane Babb and the widow of the late Glen W. Smith.

Her family states that she loved her family unconditionally and was just a wonderful all-around lady.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Caroll and Phyllis Smith of Chuckey in the Newmansville Community and Rex and Karen Smith of Greeneville; son-in-law: Willie Barrett of Greeneville; nine grandchildren and spouses: Sherrie and Bobby Jones, Carole Ann Cansler, Mark Barrett and Dianna, Teresa Barrett McMurray, John and Terry Barrett, Kim and Joe Waycaster, Brandi and Shannon Westmoreland, and Kellie and Thomas Quick, and Barry Koch; ten great grandchildren: Rachel and Rebekah Jones, Chase and Chelsie Murray, Nikki and Zachary Koch, Elijah and Carson Quick, and Chayna and Christopher Waddell; three great-great grandchildren: Colton Eli Jones, who she referred to as “her baby”, and Nevaeh and Jaylee Jones; step-granddaughter: Amber Metcalf; four brothers and sisters-in-law: Bobby and Sandra Babb, Bud and Barbara Babb, Ray and Thelma Babb of Greeneville, and Ken and Nancy Babb of Rome, Georgia; sister: Ellen Babb Taylor; six sisters-in-law: Georgia Babb, Wyonna Babb, Gertrude Smith, June Smith, Marie Gray, Faye Smith; brother-in-law: J.T. Brown; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Phyllis Barrett; two great grandsons: Samuel and Benjamin Jones; a sister: Frances Brown; and five brothers: Reece, Ralph, Jack, Fred, and Curtis Babb.

The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, in Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel with Brother Oscar McAmis and Preacher Eddie Malone officiating.

Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in the West Pines Community.

Her pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews.

Everyone whose life she touched in some small way will serve as honorary pallbearers.
