He was born and raised in South Central Community in Washington County.
He was disabled and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sisters and brothers-in-law: Shirley and Buddy Haire of Cordova, Alabama, with whom he lived for over 24 years, and Kaye and Charlie Blackwell of Fairmount, Indiana; several nieces and nephews, including Harlen and Bernice Hampton of Newport, with whom he had made his home for the past year; and several great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Bonnie Bowens Shelton; father: Furman Shelton; step-parents: Chester and Nell Ricker; two sisters: Dema Hampton and June Woodward; and one brother: Dean Shelton.
The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Friday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Shelton Mission Church with Rev. Buster Shelton and Rev. Jay Hugh Jennings officiating.
Interment will follow in Shelton Mission Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Harley Hampton, Adam Hampton, Randy Watson, Lee Rathbone, Kenny Haire, and Aric Hampton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
