Son of Luigi (1989) and Incoronata (DeConno,1995). Beloved brother of Ted & Beverley, and Angelo & Bonnie. Incredible father and inspiration to Louise DeCorso & John Gwinn, John & Jane DeCorso, Michael Angelo (deceased in infancy, 1964), and the late Paul (2024) & Sandy DeCorso.
Carmine now joins the love of his life Elena (Raffin) who passed away in 2018. Together, they worked incredibly hard to raise a family and create a lasting legacy.
Carmine was born in San Marco Dei Cavoti, Italy, August 20th, 1936. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1950, staying first with relatives in Aberfoyle before settling in Guelph among the Italian community.
Through work friends, he met Elena, and they married in 1956.
In the early 1960s, Carmine went to hairstyling school and eventually opened his first shop, Carmen’s Hairstyling, on Eramosa Road in 1965… the first in a successful career that brought him loyal customers and many friends for years. In 1971, Carmine joined his brothers Ted and Angelo to purchase property on Victoria Road and build Victoria Park East Golf Club. Carmine became the Superintendent (eventually achieving Ontario Golf Superintendent Association certification), and with his brothers grew the business to become one of the region’s finest golf courses and incredible banquet facilities – a legacy carried on by their children and grandchildren.
Carmine will forever be a cherished Nonno to Andrea DeCorso Gwinn, Alexander DeCorso & Madeleine Stoddart; Madeline, Reid, Lucas, and Will DeCorso; Holly, Nathan & Candace Gwinn; and Amber Gwinn & Szasa Vamos. Bis-Nonno to Carly and Brett Gwinn, and Olivia Boncheff. He will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and great friends in Guelph and Florida, where he spent many winters with Elena.
Sincere thanks to Dr. Robert Goldsmith, the staff of Arbour Trails - Emma’s Neighbourhood, to Wellington Terrace staff and Dr. John Stickney for their respectful and exceptional care.
Visitation will be on Sunday August 24th 1:00 – 5:00 at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph. Mass will be celebrated on Monday August 25th 10:30 at St. John the Baptist Church, 45 Victoria Road North, Guelph. Internment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
