Del is survived, and will be forever missed, by his loving wife, Susan, his two children, Stephanie (Jordan) and Graeme.
He leaves a brother Wayne (Louise) and is pre-deceased by a younger brother Dave (Donna). Sharing their grief are Susan's two brothers, Brian (Donna) and Bruce (Gwen) Kennedy, and many nephews and nieces.
Del was born at Parry Sound, Ont., and moved with his family in 1946 to Deep River, Ont., the townsite for the new Atomic Energy of Canada, Chalk River, Ont. Del attended public and secondary school in Deep River, followed by Queen's University, where he graduated with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1961. On July 1 of that year, Del and Susan were married. It was a very special year.
Del's career as an engineer began at Atomic Energy of Canada, but soon moved on in 1970 to Britain where he, Susan and Stephanie joined him while earning a Masters degree in Welding Engineering. After expecting to return to Canada, Del was offered a job at Gateshead, County Durham. The three made a new home there, and the family expanded with the birth of their son, Graeme. Being in England offered many opportunities for travel, something the family enjoyed doing together many times over the years that followed.
Del moved his family back to Canada in 1975, and his career took them to Alberta and Quebec before eventually settling back in Ontario. The final twenty years of Del's multifaceted career was spent as a Manager at Babcock & Wilcox Canada, Cambridge, Ont. Home then was in St. George, Ont. for the next 32 years. There, Del was a dedicated member of the Lions Club.
In 2012, Susan and Del bought their present home in the Village by the Arboretum, Guelph, where he enjoyed many community activities, including membership with the Royal City Men's Club.
Final arrangements are being managed by Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held there January 10, 2026, from 2:00-4:00PM. In the spring, Del's Urn will be committed to his niche in the cemetery at St. George, Ont.
As an expression of sympathy, a donation to the Guelph General Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
