Elena Campana

Devoted mother to Rino (Lynn) and proud Nonna of Marilena. Elena was predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Mariano. At 95 years of age, Elena was the last surviving member of her seven siblings. Elena will be deeply missed by her family including many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends in Canada and abroad.

Elena was born in Lama dei Peligni in the Abruzzo Region of Italy, where friends, family and hard work shaped the warm and loving woman we all knew. She married Mariano in 1950 and soon after immigrated initially to Northern Ontario, Canada. In Wawa, Ontario she and Mariano made many friendships that lasted a lifetime. They settled in Guelph in 1968, and in 1970 were blessed with their only son, Rino.

Being truly thoughtful, caring and motherly, Elena was happy to provide childcare for toddlers of her nieces and nephews. Later, despite being in her eighties at the time, she was overjoyed to provide childcare for her only granddaughter, Marilena. Everyone felt Elena’s love and caring while conversing with her and when enjoying her amazing cooking and baking. Always with a genuine smile, Elena made you feel you were the most important person in the world.

Thanks also to the following healthcare providers: Dr. Josephine De La Torre; nurses, doctors, and staff on the 4th floor of Guelph General Hospital; doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, and staff at St. Joseph’s 3rd floor, East Wing; and Care Partners.

Friends will be received on Monday, June 16 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, 1099 Gordon St. Guelph. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 17 at Holy Rosary Church, 175 Emma St., Guelph, followed by entombment at Our Lady Immaculate Mausoleum at Marymount Cemetery, Hwy 6, Guelph.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Guelph General Hospital Foundation, St. Joseph's Health Centre Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society in honour of Elena would be appreciated by the family.
