

Gary Thomas Maltby passed unexpectedly of a heart condition at his home in Hamilton on the morning of January 18th 2026. Gary Maltby was born in Guelph Ontario to Lyle Maltby and Susan Maltby (nee McGarr) on May 7th 1957. Gary lived most of his life in Guelph, growing up and enjoying his childhood in the Hearn Ave area. Growing up Gary spent time with his close cousins (McGarr’s) and friends. As an only child he always had a tight circle of friends, and stay connected with some of those friends his entire life. He loved working on and driving cars in the area and became a skilled do-it-yourself mechanic. Gary had a strong passion for playing guitar always learning new songs and attempting to teach those who were close to him in his life. Gary studied computer engineering at DeVry Institute of Technology in Toronto, where he showed a passion for computers, CAD design and electronic engineering. He graduated with a degree in electrical, electronic and communication engineering technology and continued his education with a focus on computer programming and engineering and CAD design. He worked on many important projects in several industries, including achieving a high-level security clearance to work for a defense contractor. Gary loved overcoming challenges both in his professional and personal life. Gary lived life to its fullest, and always found peace around water and would often spend time on long walks or drives around shorelines. Gary was a loyal and generous friend who will be missed by many. He was always willing to lend a hand or an ear to those he cared about. Gary is survived by a step - daughter Rikki Schoenfeld (Judy) and grandson Sebastian Messier and will be missed by a great number of friends.
