Randy was born and raised in Cambridge, where in his youth he was actively involved in Boy Scouts and Rovers—early experiences that nurtured his lifelong love of the outdoors.
Randy dedicated his entire career to working as a Tool and Die Maker at Butler Metals. He took great pride in his work and truly valued the camaraderie of his colleagues, as well as his involvement with the CAW.
Randy and Barb were married for 44 years and shared a deep love for camping and exploring Ontario’s provincial parks. They visited the majority of them together, enjoying countless hours hiking the trails. After the arrival of their son, Chris, in 1991, those hikes became family adventures. Randy would carry Chris strapped to his chest while wearing his large green army pack on his back. As the hikes went on, the pack would gradually fill with rocks—collected by Randy and later lovingly placed by Barb in her garden.
Following the unexpected loss of their son Chris in 2008, Randy found comfort in the peace and solitude of nature. The greatest joy of Randy’s life was the 17 years he spent being Chris’s dad.
Randy also enjoyed racing slot cars and could often be found tinkering with them, always trying to make them go just a little bit faster.
A devoted and active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Randy held many roles within his group’s executive and was a proud holder of 10 years of sobriety.
Randy is survived by his beloved wife, Barb (Binning); his faithful cat, Onyx; his mother, Eleanor; and his mother-in-law, Esther Binning. He will be dearly missed by his sister Cheryl Mortimer (Bob), brother Peter (Lisa), sister-in-law Tracey, brothers-in-law Rick Binning (Ann) and Doug Binning (LouAnn), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Randy was predeceased by his cherished son Christopher Robbins, his father Robert (Bob) Robbins, and his brother Don Robbins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph, Ontario.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Waterloo Region Community Foundation (Chris Robbins Memorial Fund) or the Guelph Humane Society would be greatly appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences may be made online at www.gilbertmcintyreandson.com.
