Loving father to Edward Armstrong and Kathleen French; proud grandfather of Matthew, Caroline and Simon; dear brother of Jennifer Suddaby.
Predeceased by his wife Frances and his companion Barbara; and parents Olive and Lloyd Armstrong.
He will be sorely missed by his friends in the model train community and his former colleagues at DuPont and Computer Sciences.
Richard was a man of a meticulous nature, known for his broad interests and a fascination for the detail in all things. An avid train enthusiast, his collection of model trains was a source of joy, along with his pulp science fiction magazines, carefully preserved from his childhood. He acquired a fondness for Teddy Bears through Frances’ influence; with a bear of some kind finding its way into every corner of his house, office, car, bed or any other conceivable place of concealment.
His commitment to his faith and his congregation at Erin United Church was unwavering, and he was a cherished member of his community. He leaves behind his beloved family, who will forever hold his memory close.
The family would like to thank Rean (whom Richard affectionately referred to as his granddaughter) and Pauline for providing both care and companionship to him in his home during his final weeks.
Friends will be received at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, 1099 Gordon St in Guelph, on Thursday, March 6 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
