Sebastian Urban

Seb was only 39 years of age at the time of his passing, but lived with a purpose and passion for adventure that many only dream of experiencing in a lifetime.

Seb will be forever remembered by his common-law partner, Elysse and their beloved dog, Nash; his parents Valerie and Oskar; his brother Kris (Tara); nieces Brooklyn, Mya; nephews Lincoln, Nikola, Ilija, Ayden and an impossibly large network of those privileged enough to count him as a friend from Guelph, Squamish and beyond. Seb is predeceased by his grandparents Marija and Ferenc, and Piroska and Nandor.

Born in Serbia on September 17, 1985, Seb came to Canada when he was three years old. With a determined spirit that followed him throughout his life, Seb would often share how he learned to speak English by watching cartoons. His family fondly recalls many moments from his childhood filled with the same curiosity and sense of adventure that defined his adult years. Seb's parents will always remember and cherish him as a very sensitive soul. Whatever he set his mind to, he pursued with an unstoppable determination. They admired how their sons, Kris and Seb, shared a bond akin to that of brothers, and Seb always looked up to Kris. Although Seb endured his fair share of occasional stubbornness, Seb was generally a happy and independent young man. The family supported his decision to move to British Columbia in pursuit of new adventures, an exciting new job, and someone who truly loved him, Elysse. For the family, the most important thing was to see him happy.

A true explorer at heart, Seb visited over 40 countries across six continents and embraced adventure in every form – biking, running, hiking, climbing, mountaineering and skiing – often shared in the company of loved ones. Some notable moments include completing the Boston Marathon, surviving a hike gone awry on an active volcano, Mount Merapi (Indonesia), and completing many high-altitude treks, including Mount Kinabalu (Borneo/Malaysia), Mount Everest Base Camp (Nepal), Nevado Sajama and the highest being Huayna Potosi (Bolivia) at 6100m. Many of these treks being with his dear friend, Rob Nadj.

Through the remarkable upbringing provided to Kris and Seb, which was embedded with a deep appreciation for travel and adventure, Seb was fortunate to share his joy of exploration to create cherished memories with his nieces and nephews. Together, they embarked on a family adventure to Hawaii, and Seb always joined Kris’ family on outings in Ontario and British Columbia. Additionally, in a testament to their love and gratitude for their parents, Kris and Seb treated their father to a journey to Peru and their mother to a memorable trip to Portugal, creating even more lasting bonds.

Though forever a Guelphite, Seb’s heart led him to settle in British Columbia, where the Coast Mountains became his playground – Whistler Blackcomb, Wedge Mountain and Sky Pilot were among his personal favourites.

Amidst his many adventures, he was a devoted partner, son, brother, uncle, and friend whose quick-wit and fun-loving spirit will be deeply missed. Seb brightened every room he stepped into, and would do anything, without hesitation, to help those close to him. Seb was well known as someone who listened with intent and loved unconditionally.

Following in his brother's footsteps, Seb also excelled in his professional life as a project manager. His achievements included managing the construction of a 6-floor building at 411 Railway in the historic Railtown neighbourhood of Vancouver – an accomplishment of which he was incredibly proud.

Through a deep appreciation of art, Seb’s tattoos were a personal chronicle of his life’s journey – a collection of mementos from his international travels, stories of broken bones along the way, and tributes to his heritage, family and friends. One tattoo, in particular, stands out: a sailing ship with the words Explore, Discover, Dream. Seb embodied those words in everything he did.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sebastian's closest friends for their unwavering support and companionship throughout his life. Their impact on his well-being was immeasurable, and their presence brought immense joy and positivity into his life. We consider them family and cherish their friendship dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 16th, 2024, at the Guelph Arboretum, inside the Auditorium room, from 4pm-9pm. The family will be dressed in celebration (no black) and invites those attending to do the same.

Special thanks are also extended to Whatcom County Search and Rescue (WCSAR) for their dedication, expertise and support in bringing Seb home. Sebastian Urban (1985-2024)

Urbán Sebastian, Squamish, British Columbiaból, eredetileg Guelph, Ontarioból, tragikusan elhunyt a Mount Baker-i hegymászás közben, Washington államban, USA. Szebi csak 39 éves volt amikor életét vesztette, de olyan életet élt, tele élményekkel és szeretettel, milyenről sok ember csak álmodni tud!

Szebire örökké fog emlékezni a társa Elysse, a kutyusuk Nash, a szülei Valérija és Oszkár, a testvére Kris, (Tara), unokahugai Brooklyn és Mya, unokaöccsei Lincoln, Nikola, Ilija és Ayden, és a sok-sok barát Guelphen, Squamishbol és szerte amerre járt. Nagyszülei voltak Márija és Ferenc, valamint Piroska és Nándor.

Szebi 1985. szeptember 17-én Szerbiában született, és három éves korában érkezett Kanadába. Szebi sokszor mesélt arról, hogy az angol nyelvet úgy tanulta meg, hogy rajzfilmeket nézett a tévén. Ahogy a szülei emlékeznek rá, gyermekkorában is olyan kíváncsi és felfedező természete volt, ami felnőtt korában is végigkísérte. Ha valamit elhatározott, azt biztosan végigcsinálta. Valérija és Oszkár csodálták a kapcsolatot a két testvér között. Szebi mindig felnézett az idősebb testvérére, Kris-re. Bár időnként keményfejű volt, alapjában véve egy boldog, független fiatalember volt. A családja támogatta elhatárazását, hogy British Columbiába költözzön, ahol újabb kihívások, új munka várt rá, és Elysse, aki igazán szerette. Családjának mindig az volt a legfontosabb, hogy boldognak lássák.

Szebi igazán imádta az utazást- több mint 40 országot látogatott meg, hat kontinensen át. A szabadtéri sportok minden formája része volt az utazásainak- biciklizés, síelés, hegymászás, gyakran a szeretteivel együtt. Teljesítette a Boston Marathon-t, túlélt egy kockázatos hegymászást Indonéziában a Mount Merapi aktív vulkánon. Több merész hegymászást teljesített, mint Mount Kinabalu (Borneo, Malaysia), Mount Everest Base Camp (Nepal), Nevado Sajama, és a legmagasabb, a 6100 méteres Huayna Potosi (Bolivia). Ezek közül többet az egyik legkedvesebb barátjával, Nadj Robival teljesítette.

Szebi és Kris úgy voltak nevelve, hogy életük fontos része legyen az élményszerzés, az utazás. Szebi szerette megosztani élményeit az unokahugaival és öccseivel. Családi utazást szerveztek Kris-szel Hawaiiba, és közös útjaik voltak Ontárióban és British Columbiába. Emlékezetes élmény volt a szüleiknek, amikor születésnapjukra a két testvér édesapjukat elvitte Peruba, édesanyjuknak pedig egy Portugál utat szerveztek.

Bár Guelphben nőtt fel, Szebinek a szíve British Columbiába vágyott, ahol a Sziklás hegység szinte a játszótere lett. Kedvence volt a Whistler Blackcomb, Wedge Mountain, és a Sky Pilot.

E kockázatos hobbijai mellett is elkötelezett társ, fiú, testvér, nagybácsi és barát volt, akinek a jópofa humora, természete és szeretete hiányozni fog mindenkinek. A környezetében gondolkodás nélkül segített mindenkinek, akinek szüksége volt rá. Teljes szívből szerette a családját, a társát, és a barátait.

Csakúgy mint a báttya, Szebi is sikeres volt szakmai téren mint projektmenedzser. Sikeresen vezette le egy hat emeletes épületnek az építkezését Vancouverben, a történelmi Railtown körzetben, amire nagyon büszke volt.

Szebi nagyon értékelte a művészetet. Tattooi szinte visszatükrözték az élete során tett útjait. Mint emlékek gyűjteménye, az útjairól, elismerés a származásáról, családjáról és barátairól. Jellegzetes példája egy vitorláshajó ezekkel a szavakkal: “Explore, Discover, Dream.” Tetteit és életútját ezekkel a szavakkal lehet jellemezni.

Szeretnénk köszönetet mondani Szebi legközelebbi barátainak a folyamatos támogatásért és szeretetért, amiben egész életén át részesítették. Jelenlétük sok örömet hozott, és sokat jelentett Szebinek. Úgy tekintünk rájuk, mintha a család részei lennének.

2024 Október 16-án, délután 4 és 9-óra között a Guelphi Arboretum Auditorium termében fogunk emlékezni Szebi életéről. A család alkalmi öltözetben, nem gyászruhában lesz. Ezt kérik a látogatóktól is.
