Beloved and devoted wife of the late Antonie Joris Haga (Tony). Proud and wonderful mother to Rick (Susan) and Lex. Loving Oma to Jeffrey (Amenemhet), Adam (Lauren), Mattea, Rhiannon, and Aiden.
Born in The Hague, Holland to (Maria Pico-Sombroek & Petrus-Cornelis Pico), Terry grew up in her native Holland (Den Haag) with her sisters (Rie & Gre) and brothers (Wim, Henk & Piet), and then married the love of her life Tony on July 1st, 1955, at St. Paulus Roman Catholic Church in the Hague, Netherlands. On July 15, 1955, they boarded the s.s. Groote Beer in Rotterdam and set sail for Canada arriving in Halifax at Pier 21 on July 25, 1955. They started their new life in Canada by making their way by train to Taber, Alberta. As a trained food chemist Tony started his successful professional career in the sugar beet industry in Taber and Terry started her professional career managing their household & family with some time spent in the retail & real estate industries prior to their retirement.
Following the birth of their sons Rick & Lex in Alberta, Tony & Terry made their way east to Toronto and then to the West Island of Montreal (Pointe Claire & Dollard des Ormeaux) to raise their family. Terry’s devotion, passion and love was for her husband and sons which also extended to family members in Holland, the United States, Alberta & BC. She fostered and maintained many close friendships with neighbours and colleagues wherever they went that continued throughout her life to the very end. Dancing, biking, swimming, and tennis were her activity & sports passions. Terry & Tony also enjoyed travelling and visited many different destinations around the world. In their retirement they moved to Guelph, Ontario and settled into the wonderful retirement community of Village by the Arboretum. They enjoyed a rich and vibrant retirement life, actively involved in the community surrounded by many friends and neighbours.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Schlegel Retirement Residences in Guelph for their care & support extended to Terry after Tony’s passing over the past 3 years. We would also like to extend our deepest appreciation and thanks to the first responders for their compassion and care that they provided to Terry upon her passing.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no service or visitation. Cremation is arranged and internment is to follow shortly afterwards. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of your choice. The family invites those who knew and loved Terry to celebrate her life and remember her in your own special way and know that she has now joined her beloved Ton, looking down at us fondly and is at peace in heaven.
