

He passed away after a sudden illness, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Teresa Jakiela; his daughter, Angelika Jakiela; his sons, Martin and Sebastian Jakiela; his grandson, Lukas Jakiela; and granddaughters, Michaela and Willow Jakiela.
He was predeceased by his parents, Irena and Kazimierz Jakiela, and his brother Richard.
Born on March 10, 1955, in Lubatowa, Poland, Zbigniew was raised by his grandparents. From a young age, he proved to be a gifted athlete, earning numerous podium placements in cross-country skiing and biathlon at the national level. After completing his mandatory military service in 1976, he pursued studies at Technikum Górnictwa Naftowego in Krosno. He later immigrated to Canada to start a new life and family with his wife.
Zbigniew lived, worked, and raised his family in Toronto before retiring to Guelph to be closer to his grandchildren.
Over his 39-year career as a Lead Hand at Princess Margaret Hospital, Zbigniew made a lasting impact. A skilled mechanical technician and devoted Catholic, he served his family and community with unwavering kindness, integrity, and dedication.
Zbigniew was someone everyone could count on, whether to fix or build anything, offer last-minute childcare, help resolve a problem, or simply lend a listening ear. He was known for his quiet strength, his gentle sense of humor, and his dependable nature.
Zbigniew left us too soon. He lived with purpose, grace, and resilience. His work ethic was unmatched, and his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Friends will be received on Sunday June 15 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 am on Monday, June 16 at the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate, 28 Norfolk St. Guelph, followed by a reception in the church hall.
