REYNER, Albert “Bert” - 76. It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our Dad on August 18th. Dad passed away peacefully at his home in Terence Bay following a lengthy illness. He was a loving husband to Mom (Marjorie) for over 55 years and the best father a big bunch of kids like us could ever ask for. He was a patient, caring, and kind grandfather to Mark, Mike, Kristy, Jill, Stephanie, Caitlin, Breann, Ashley, Patrick, Morgan, and Gael.
Dad was a Veteran of the Canadian Navy and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Korean Veterans’ Society, and many times he recalled stories from his days at sea with his shipmates and friends. He was particularly proud of his work as a founding member and Vice-president with the SS Atlantic Heritage Park Society.
A highlight for him each year was attending the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo and his chest always swelled with pride when the MC asked all those who served to stand and receive applause in recognition for their service for Canada.
He was a strong, proud man and had many friends who will miss him as much as we do already. Dad was born in Ontario and always said the reason he never went back to live there was because the sea was here.
Dad was predeceased by his loving mother Violet Gagne, his father Albert J. Reyner, and his dear sister Donna Shire.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, his brother, Fred (Marg), and his children, daughter Cindy (Les) Harrie, sons Al (Genevieve), Sheldon, Derrick (Dale), Ken (Keri), Perry (Darlene) and “adopted” son Peter (Sharon) Slaunwhite, all of whom can’t imagine life without him.
Arrangements are entrusted by J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. There will be no visitation. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 21st, 2010 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Terence Bay with Rev. Lisa Vaughn officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery following the service. There will be a reception following at the Terence Bay Fire Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SS Atlantic Heritage Park Society or St. Paul’s Church, Terence Bay. To send an on-line message of condolence to the family, please visit: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com.
