They began their life in Canada in Annapolis eventually settling in Middleton, NS where Al and his brother Keith grew up in a warm and loving home.
Al met his life’s long-love Karen (nee Charlton) Evans in 1969, in Fredericton, NB, where they both worked at the time. They were married in 1970 and soon after their marriage came their two adored children, Mari (nee Bezanson) and Scot Evans.
Al had a successful career, beginning with the Armed Forces, working in finance with the IAC, then a long career in the automotive industry.
Although Al was successful in his varied careers, Al would himself say, his life’s truest and happiest achievements were his marriage, his two children Mari and Scot, and his grandchildren Ella and Evan Bezanson (Mari and Peter) and Connor Evans (Scot and Meegan nee Lovett).
“Pops” or “Grampy” adored them all and was at his happiest when surrounded by his family. You would always find Al and Karen in the stands, winter, or summer, be it at a rink, ballfield,or any performance he could be present at cheering on his grandchildren. He adored them.
An avid volunteer, Al dedicated his spare time to the Lion’s Club, New Glasgow Minor Hockey, and Pictou Country Minor Hockey leagues. Al loved hockey, and nothing pleased him more than to watch the Mooseheads or local AUS teams. If his family was with him even better.
Al was a devoted and loyal friend. Those who were fortunate enough to know Al felt his warmth, energy, and good nature immediately. Always quick to laugh, he was a blessing to all who knew him. He would light up any room he entered.
Story teller, jokester, professional chin-wagger, no one could captivate an audience better than Al. There was nothing he loved more than a good visit, especially around a fire, out in the woods on his side-by-side with Karen and friends in New Brunswick, or at the cottage on Gulf Shore Road, then Lake Charlotte. Al had friends sprinkled around the three Maritime provinces as well as the friends he and Karen made on their travels and their semi-retirement in Florida. It did not matter where you came from, who you were, or how much you had, if you were a good person, Al welcomed you with open arms.
There are no words to express, the deep loss his family feels. He was, in the end, rich in love beyond measure.
He leaves behind his wife Karen, his children Scot and Mari, and his grandchildren Ella, Evan, and Connor.
A celebration of life will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home on Friday, January 13, 2023, at 2pm. For those who wish, donations can be made to the MS Society or Wounded Warriors Canada. Online condolences may be made at www.jasnowfuneralhome.com
